Fun Writing Prompts
Writing is such an important part of a child’s education. However, a lot of kids struggle to write or just don’t like to do it. Here is a list of writing prompts that are fun and will get your child motivated to write!
Opinion Prompts
Opinion prompts allow your student to state their opinion on a topic and provide reasons and details towards why they chose that opinion. This will help your student state a point and be able to back up their statement with evidence later in their writing career.
1. If you could be an astronaut, what planet would you visit and why?
2. If you could only have one meal for the rest of your life, what meal would it be and why?
3. What is your favorite video game? Why is that game your favorite?
4. If you could be any superhero, which one would you choose and why?
5. If you could be in any movie, what movie would you be in and why?
Narrative Prompts
Narrative prompts are writing prompts that ask your student to write a detailed essay about a memory. This will help your student be able to write a detailed and thought out essay that starts from beginning to end.
1. Describe your favorite birthday.
2. Tell me about the first time that you went to an amusement park.
3. Give a detailed memory of the first time you made something.
4. Describe the first time that you went to the movies.
5. Tell me about the best day that you spent with your parents.
Persuasive Prompts
Persuasive prompts are writing prompts that ask your student to state their opinion, give evidence why this opinion is the only opinion, and prove other evidence as wrong or incorrect. These topics are similar to opinion prompts; however, they ask the student to take it a step further and prove that their opinion is the only opinion anyone reading their writing should have.
1. Do you think that children should drink coffee, why or why not?
2. Do you think that children should go to school on weekends, why or why not?
3. Do you think that math is more important than language arts, why or why not?
4. Do you believe that children should exercise every day, why or why not?
5. Do you think that a child would make a better president than an adult, why or why not?
Any of these prompts are a great way to teach children how to love writing and to have fun while doing it!
